No matter what you do try to find your own feet in game There are far too many people who seek out too much information which results in spoiling the game and that is the last thing you want.

If you do it all yourself you will find the game much more rewarding, and most of all have fun! I remember when i first got guild wars it was an awesome experience coming from mostly FPS games like unreal tournament and quake and im still here so it still cant be all that bad...

In pretty much every town you go to, you will probably see lots of people offering "runs" - either to another town/outpost or through one of the missions. Since you are new to the game, PLEASE DO NOT GET A RUN! Learn the game. Play through the game. Not only will you spoil the experience for yourself, you will miss out on the learning experience from fighting through it manually.

Since you are new to the game, you won't know market prices for any items. If you try to sell anything in town, don't accept the first price someone spams you. It's probably a power-selling undercutter (might even be me!). Ask for a price check in chat before you part with anything you are unsure of.

Above all else, if you get stuck in-game do not be afraid to ask for help. There are always people in-game willing to point you on the right path.

Good luck!

Cybernetic: Yeah I played some other mmos so it won't be a problem, but I will pop-in with some questions from time to time
TideSwayer: Thank you for your tips. I will definetely look for prices before to sell something if I get some nice items.

Also firestorm is a horrible, horrible spell, even for an elemental spell, even for a beginner, and you should feel guilty for telling him it's great.

*Elemental damage is shit in hard mode because of high enemy armour.
1. A few months back conjures were changed to dealing armor-ignoring elemental damage. (Yes, that makes a total hash of the formerly clear terminology and mechanics.)

2. Conjures are nonetheless bad because they remove you from participating in MoP/Barbs/Orders, which do far more damage than conjure does.

3. HOWEVER, for a new player, with a limited selection of skills and teammates available, it's not a horrible thing. It's not like OP can just ditch Conjure and suddenly run Barrage+SY! and a AP-MoP necro and Orders necro will magically appear in their party screen to help out. OP, just make sure you understand that conjure is a temporary, just-for-now build choice and it's no crime.

4. Agreed that firestorm is bad pretty much unconditionally.

Oh I didnt know he was starting prophecies out in HardMode. If your to stupid to get out of a 'habit' later in the game that hambers your character build then you probably shouldn't try to get into PUG's.

Firestorm is not a terrible spell for a beginner at all. It's alot better than some of the people sugguesting him to be a monk for crying out loud.

Just about every PUG player is too stupid to get out of the habit, that's why they all stick with shitty builds that are fine in the early game, but terrible elsewhere.

So why run those terrible builds at all? Why use elemental damage? Why not just play well from the start?

Welcome to Guild Wars and our community.

It seems most of your questions have already been answered, so I won't belabor them. Though, I think you'll find that most questions you have about the game can answer themselves. It's not very cryptic to its approach in gameplay, and you can't "ruin" your character like you can in other RPGs, which is something I've always loved.

Just one thing that can't be said enough. The wiki is truly a wealth of information on literally anything you need to know about Guild Wars. Keep it close, and never be afraid to ask questions here as well.

My advise as far as your dilema: play through the game with a few different profs and get a handle on their mechanics before you start worrying about trying to mix-and-match skills. This fourm is based off of efficiency and elitism, you will loose a lot of the sparkle to the game if you just grab a build from here.

Enjoy the game, do NOT trust any bunnies you happen to cross

Welcome to GuildWars

Here's something I want to point out.

To get great gear, you don't have to be rich, buy golds items, or do real grinding (compared to other MMO's). You do that to get great *looking* gear with the same stats

The "max" 4 plat armor set provides the *same* as the expensive "max" 60 plat armor set. The 60 plat just (usually) looks much better.

Same thing applies to weapons, off-hand items. There collector's that offer plain looking stuff with the same stats in exchange for monster drops vs buying expensive "perfect" gold from players.

Skills are not like other games, the effectiveness depends on the attribute powering them vs other MMO's where "starting" skills suck latter on and you have to keep grinding for more powerful skills.

Even when you hit lvl 20, your still have a lot of skills you can unlocks for a vast number of skill combinations. Also... don't get attached to some specific build that won't work if one skill changes, skills are tweaked all the time

Starting out, you won't have much in the ways of skills, or unlocks, if things start getting too hard, look at your skill bar, take anything out your not really using, and put something in you think you will use.

If you try a profession, and don't like, try something out, you will find what you like and don't like, and play with what you like, not what someone tells you.

Ex - I prefer back row damage / support vs front line melee. I have nothing against front line melee, I just prefer back / middle row play.

I have to agree with Life Style above me, random pick up groups (pugs) can suck, but find a good guild, or build up a good social network of friends you can play with makes the game very enjoyable. Pugs is where you can meet cool player, make a connection, put them on friends list and build a good social network of friends.

Don't feel tied to a guild, if the guild your in doesn't make a good fit for you find another one.

Also GwGuru culture can be incredibly negative at times.

PVE / PVP

There is PvE (Missions, Quests, etc)

PVP I falls in to two groups.
Competive PVP and Casual PvP

The competive is the one's on the battle isle's, codex, hall of hero's. This is where you have to have a bit of "think" skin. It's harsh learning with some people, or they flat out won't give you the time of day for being a so called 'noob'. If you keep at you will get the experience and can be seriously competing in no time.

Casual PvP is more, group up, have fun, such as Alliance Battles, and Fort Jade/Aspen in factions, and possibly... Random Arena. Some groups do care about skill builds / synergy but a lot of times as long as you have a functional build... your perfectly fine. Fort Jade/Aspen especially... you "enter" battle and your randomly placed in a group

Guild Vs Guild battles - serious / non serious... depends with the guild your a member of. Some guilds are very serious, other's done't eve GvG.

Whew.... didn't mean to make such a long post

Most of this has been said already, but hey, the post's written so I may as well post it.

No, but generally they're pretty easy to spot. The primary quest line should never really be broken; every quest you turn in should be followed immediately by a new primary quest, or a mission (you'll find out what those are later, but the first one is "The Great Northern Wall". You'll find yourself in an outpost with that name, and there will be a button in your party window labeled "Enter Mission", but all that doesn't come for a while).

2. Paint's. I just got one randomly as a drop and lol. Nice item. Now I have a smexy pink bow =D
They're called dyes, but whatever. Save any black or white ones you find and sell them later as they're quite pricey, eventually you'll get to a point where you can find a dye trader npc that'll tell you what every dye is worth. Try to buy and sell dyes (or materials, or anything else with a trader npc) between the buy and sell prices of the trader.

3. Secondary class? I don't know but is it really necesarry? What if I want to be only ranger? I made the quest at lvl 2 for the monk and he gave me 2 skills, then I made a quest at warrior and he gave me 3 skills and deleted the monk ones. I stopped here. I am asking you guys now wich 1 shall I pick me as a ranger. I am asking especially the experienced players. I have no idea wich 1 shall I pick. Wich 1 is the best for a ranger?
Don't stress so much about it. Your secondary isn't really a big deal most of the time (though there are some builds where you have more secondary skills than primary). Rangers can often get away with running no secondary skills at all, and that's often a good thing because spellcasting on three energy pips is tough. When in doubt, monk is a good secondary pick, because you get access to a hard res. By "hard res" I mean a re-usable resurrection spell (like Resurrect or Rebirth). Most classes don't get access to these spells, and can only use Resurrection Signet, which can only be used once until you need to "recharge" it by entering an outpost (or killing a boss/getting a morale boost).

Furthermore, you'll eventually get the ability to change your secondary to any profession in the game, at any time.

4. Attribuite points. I am almost level 4 and didn't distributed anyone so far because I don't want to mess up my build, so I need your help again. At level 20 will I have enought attribuite points to learn all the skills so I shall make no trouble and learn any I want, or you can sugest me where to put the attribuite points because as I said I rea;;y don't want to mess-up my build :S
Again, don't stress. GW isn't big on life-or-death, omgIJustMessedUpMyBuildINeedToReroll decisions. Att points can be rearranged at any time, as long as you're in an outpost, so feel free to experiment. Furthermore, att points aren't what you use to get skills, you use skill points for that. You can check how many skill points you have in the top right corner of your hero panel (press H). You get skill points every time you gain a level, and also for certain quests, and also by completing missions later. For now, focus on marksmanship, expertise, and wilderness survival; beast mastery is cute if you want a pet but it's not really all that effective unless you focus entirely on your pet, and it's best to generally stick to 2-3 atts, with maybe a splash for a 4th once you get to a higher level with lots of points to spend.

5. Expansions of GW. Hm. Will I need to make a new char for every new expansion I buy? Because my plan is to work only on 1 char and make that one strong because I won;t be playing more than 1-2 hours a day 3 at the weekends. Right now I just ordered prophecies and wanna buy them in release order...Because all I want is to finish the quest and level-up to 20 fast and then just enter the pvp zone. Or I have to make a new char only for pvp? If yes can I make 1 with the same name from the roleplaying scenario? I really need some info here google won't help =(
You can take any roleplaying character into any new chapter you buy. You can also make new characters (you get 2 new slots for adding Factions or Nightfall to your account). You can also take your PvE char into any PvP area, but it's generally advised to make a PvP char to PvP with until you get your PvE char really tricked out, as PvP chars start at max level with all the upgrades and skills you've unlocked on your account, for free. A PvP char will pretty much always be more powerful than any PvE char you can make, and the exceptions you won't have to worry about for a long time.

Quote:
6. Guild. I saw there are 2 types of guilds. PvP and PvE. This made me ... I don't know ... So wich 1 I shall enter ...? Again my playing style is to finish all the expansions and then just pvp and maybe farm bosses, dungeons(or something like that) and make a godly set.
Guilds aren't just PvP or PvE, though some are. It's really up to the guild members themselves, what they want to do. Read some guild recruitment spam, ask questions of the officers (what do they like to do, are they new player friendly, are they primarily PvE or PvP or both, when do they like to play, etc), and join a guild that you think fits your needs. You can always switch, though I'd give any guild at least a week before leaving.
